Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 2026

Short version: The text you enter into any Shiftext tool never leaves your browser. All processing happens client-side using JavaScript on your own device. We do not collect, transmit, or store any of the text you work with.

Who we are

Shiftext ("we", "our", "the site") is a free collection of online text transformation tools available at shiftext.com. If you have any questions about this policy, you can reach us via our contact page.

What data we collect

Text you enter into the tools: None. All of our tools operate entirely in your browser using JavaScript. When you paste text into a tool, it is processed locally on your device and the output is displayed in your browser. No text is transmitted to any server, logged, stored, or seen by us at any point.

Personal information: We do not ask you for personal information, and we do not operate any user accounts. If you voluntarily submit the contact form, the information you provide (your name, email address, and message) is used solely to respond to your enquiry. Separately, if you consent to analytics (see below), Microsoft Clarity processes technical information about your visit, including an approximation of your location derived from your IP address. Microsoft states that Clarity does not store complete IP addresses.

Cookies and local storage

localStorage (our own): Shiftext uses your browser's localStorage to save your preferences, for example, remembering which tool you last used so the nav can highlight it on your next visit, or saving any per-tool settings you've changed. This data stays entirely on your device and is never transmitted anywhere. You can clear it at any time via your browser settings (usually under "Site Data" or "Cookies and Storage").

Advertising cookies (Google AdSense): When Shiftext carries advertising, it will be served via Google AdSense. If AdSense is active, Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your interests and prior visits to sites that use Google's advertising services. Those cookies are set by Google, not by Shiftext. You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google's Ad Settings or by using the NAI opt-out tool.

Aggregate analytics (Cloudflare Web Analytics): Shiftext uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page views and see which tools are visited. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies and stores no identifier on your device, and it does not follow you across websites. It records page views, the referring page, your approximate country, your browser and operating system, and page-load performance measurements collected through your browser's Performance API. Because it stores nothing on your device, it is not part of the consent banner and it runs whether or not you accept Microsoft Clarity. Cloudflare retains the unsampled measurements for about seven days and then aggregates them. Cloudflare's Privacy Policy applies to their processing. Any content blocker that blocks cloudflareinsights.com will stop it loading, and the site works normally without it.

Analytics cookies (Microsoft Clarity): With your consent, Shiftext uses Microsoft Clarity, a behavioural analytics service, to understand how the tools are used so we can improve them. Clarity collects heatmaps, session recordings, and interaction data such as clicks, scrolling, rage clicks, page performance and browser and device characteristics. It sets first-party cookies (_clck and _clsk) to link page views into a single session. We also send Clarity three custom events per tool, recording that a conversion was made, that a result was copied, and that a share link was created. These events record the action, never the text involved.

What Clarity cannot see: The tool areas of every page are marked with Microsoft's masking attribute. The text you type and the results you generate are redacted before anything leaves your browser, and are never transmitted to Microsoft or to us. Clarity also masks the contents of input fields in all of its masking modes.

Your location and IP address: Clarity uses IP-based geolocation to approximate which country or region a visit came from. Microsoft states that Clarity does not store complete IP addresses and uses partial or obfuscated addresses for this purpose.

How to opt out: You have several routes, and any one of them is enough.

Where you are matters. If you are visiting from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, nothing is loaded and no cookies are set until you press Accept. Everywhere else, analytics runs by default and you are shown a notice with a one-click way to turn it off. In all regions, GPC and DNT signals are honoured before anything else is considered.

Cloudflare Web Analytics and Microsoft Clarity are the only analytics services we use. We run no other analytics platform, no other tracking script, and no advertising network beyond Google AdSense as described above.

Third-party services

Cloudflare. Cloudflare Ltd processes the aggregate, cookieless measurements described above as an independent controller, under its own privacy policy.

Microsoft Clarity. When you consent to analytics, data described above is transmitted to and stored by Microsoft on Azure infrastructure. Microsoft is an independent controller of that data and may use it in accordance with the Microsoft Privacy Statement, which applies to their processing. Clarity retains session data for a limited period, currently around 30 days.

When Shiftext carries advertising, the only advertising service used will be Google AdSense. If AdSense is active, Google's use of the DoubleClick cookie enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to Shiftext and/or other websites. Google's Privacy Policy applies to their services.

Shiftext is hosted on a static content delivery platform. Your browser connects to our CDN host's servers to download the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript files that make the site work, this connection may involve your IP address being logged by the hosting provider in standard server access logs, as is normal for any website. We do not access or process these logs for user tracking purposes.

Children's privacy

Shiftext's tools are general-purpose text utilities suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If the site carries advertising, parental guidance is advised for younger users. If you believe a child has submitted personal information via our contact form, please contact us so we can delete it.

Your rights

We hold very little data about you. If you have not used the contact form and have not consented to analytics, we hold nothing at all. If you have submitted a contact enquiry and wish to have that data removed, please email us and we will delete it. If you have consented to analytics, the resulting session data is held by Microsoft rather than by us, and is deleted on Microsoft's own retention schedule.

Where we rely on your consent to run analytics, you may withdraw it at any time, and as easily as you gave it, using the Cookie preferences link in the footer of any page. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out beforehand.

If you are in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you have the right under the GDPR, UK GDPR or FADP to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of personal data relating to you, and to lodge a complaint with your supervisory authority. If you are in Australia, the Australian Privacy Principles give you the right to access and correct personal information, and you may complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner. If you are in California or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, you may opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information; we do not sell or share personal information, and we honour the Global Privacy Control signal regardless. For anything relating to data held by Microsoft rather than by us, please refer to the Microsoft Privacy Statement linked above.

Changes to this policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of Shiftext after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
